Illustrated with colour photographs and diagrams, the guide explains where to site a nestbox, basket or platform. It also includes designs and detailed instructions on how to build and install these nest sites safely. The 4O-page booklet draws on the experience, expertise and successes of The Hawk and Owl Trust. Its conservation experts have installed more than 3,000 nestboxes and nesting baskets. They carefully select areas of good feeding habitat -such as on farms or golf courses, in woods or on river banks –where natural sites are scarce, threatened or lost. Each year, over 1,000 of these artificial nest sites are occupied. The authors: Sue Dewar was National Coordinator of The Hawk and Owl Trust's Barn Owl Conservation Network, and Colin Shawyer is the Trust's Director of Conservation and Research. |
