Nigel Quinton Nigel has been elected as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Liberal Democrats in the Hitchin and Harpenden Constituency.
Nigel graduated from Cambridge as a geologist. His business career includes a period with BP and since 1988 running an oil exploration group based in Harpenden. He has close connections with Wheathampstead where one of his daughters goes to school as well as Harpenden where he captains one of the Sunday cricket teams.

| The County Ward covers Wheathampstead and Redbourn (St Albans Rural). In recent years the County Councillor has been either Liberal Democrat or Tory. The latest election was in May 2005. The result was Liberal Democrat 2,627 up 99. Tory 2778 up 52. Labour 720 down 318. Greens who stood for the first time 318. Tories retained the seat by 151 (down 43). The County Council now has 14 Liberal Democrats (up 4) Labour 16 (down 11) Greens 1 (up 1) and Tories 46 (up 6).
