This is the last Will and Testament of me Elizabeth Ephgrave of
Gustard Wood in the Parish of Wheathamsted in the
County of Hertford widow ffirst I give and devise all those my four free
hold [?] acres gardens and [?]ments situate at Gustard Wood aforesaid with
the respective occupations of Thomas Groom Caroline
Norris James Reeves and Robert Wright?
in manner following that is to say the cottage and garden in the
occupation of Thomas Groom to my daughter Sarah the
wife of John Archer her heirs and [?] for ever the cottage
and garden in the occupation of Caroline Norris to my son
Charles Ephgrave his heirs and [?] for ever and the two
remaining cottages in the respective occupations of James Reeves
and Robert Wright to my son Ffrederick Ephgrave
his heirs and [?] forever subject nevertheless as to the two last
mentioned cottages and premises to the payment [?] of ten pounds to each
of my three grandchildren Ann Elizabeth Thomas and
Joseph the children of my late son John Ephgrave such
legacies to be paid to them as soon as conveniently may be after my
decease I give and bequeathe all my wearing apparel to my daughter the
said Sarah Archer I also give and bequeathe to each of my
two grandchildren Ann Elizabeth and Thomas
Ephgrave the further legacy or sum of twenty pounds to be paid as soon
as conveniently may be after my decease and subject thereto and to the
payment of all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses I give and
bequeathe all the rest and residue of my personal estate and effects
whatsoever unto my executors herinafter named ??? with all convenient
speed after my decease to sell and convert the same into money and to pay
and divide the net proceeds thereof to and amongst my three surviving
children the said Sarah Archer and Charles
Ephgrave and Ffrederick Ephgrave in equal share and
proportions the share of my said daughter not to be subject to the debts
control or engagements of her said husband but to be paid to her for her
own sole separated and absolute use and benefit and I hereby nominate and
appoint the said Sarah Archer and Charles Ephgrave
and Ffrederick Ephgrave executrix and executors of this my
will and lastly hereby revoke all former wills by me at any time
heretofore made and do declare this only to be my last will and testament
in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventeenth
day of February one thousand eight hundred and fifty five
Elizabeth Ephgrave {flourish} signed sealed published and
declared by the said Elizabeth Ephgrave the testatrix as and
for her last will and testament in the presence of us who in her presence and in the presence of each other at the same time have hereunto scribed our names as witnesses attesting to the same Tho Ward Blagg Solr. St Albans Saml A? his clerk Proved at London 10th May 1855 before the worshipful George Edward Douglas Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the oaths of Sarah Archer wife of John Archer the daughter and Charles Ephgrave and Ffrederick Ephgrave the sones the executors to whom admon was granted having been first sworn only to administer. |
